TIME TO SHOW OUR SUPPORT FOR SAFE HEALTHCARE
The anti-abortion site, #ProtestPP has planned nationwide protests in 44 states for Saturday, February 11 in an attempt to show support for defunding Planned Parenthood.
WHAT DOES DEFUNDING MEAN?
Defunding Planned Parenthood is a primary goal of abortion foes and will place major roadblocks for women who want abortions. What defunding actually means is that economically disadvantaged women will lose access to safe and affordable healthcare. According to the websites, I Stand With Planned Parenthood, 60% of patients seeking healthcare at their clinics rely on public healthcare plans such as Medicaid to access care. This includes yearly exams, cancer screenings, STD screenings, birth control and other health services. The majority of Planned Parenthood’s services are preventive health care, NOT abortions.
HOW TO PARTICIPATE
Show up and support women who seek access to medical professionals. Attend and shed light on an institution that provides far more services than abortions. Take note that these defunding protests are on the heels of the anti-abortion march on Washington. This march takes place on Friday, January 27 in Washington, D.C. Promoters hope to rival the attendance of last Saturday’s highly successful and extremely well-attended Women’s March on Washington. As a result, the tone of the smaller protests has the potential to be volatile. Be careful, aware and present. Be compassionate to those seeking care at these facilities, as well.
